Ivermectin is a semi synthetic derivative of one of the avermectins, a group of macrocyclic lactones produced by Streptomyces avermitilis. Ivermectin is a member of the avermectin class of broad spectrum anti parasitic agent, which binds to glutamate gated or GABA gated chloride ion channels which occur in invertebrate nerve and muscle cells. This leads to an increase in the permeability of cell membrane to chloride ions with hyperpolarisation of nerve of muscle cell, resulting in paralysis & death of parasite. |

Following oral administration of Iveremctin, peak plasma conc.( 46ng/ml after single 12mg dose) is achieved in 4 hrs. The bioavailability of solid forms of Iveremctin is around 50-60%.It is mainly metabolized in liver and tissue conc. is max. in liver and fat. Iveremctin and its metabolite are excreted mainly in feces (95%) over an estimated period of 12 days. |
